One aspect to remember about your 350 motor is it maintains a 10 PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch) of oil pressure per 1000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) on the engine when the engine is idle. Check your engine oil level. Top up the synthetic oil in your 350 Chev if you need to before beginning the break-in process.
Once you’ve filled your engine with non-synthetic oil install a pressure gauge and then disconnect your engine control system. It must not provide ignition or fuel to the engine. Now crank the engine to the starter for 10 seconds and check the oil pressure on the gauge. If you don’t see oil pressure wait 30 seconds and then repeat the process until the gauge detects the pressure.
Reconnect the engine and start it up. Be sure to listen for any noises during this process. If you do hear anything, simply check the engine for any problems, troubleshoot them and then continue until there are no sounds.
Turn the engine off and let it cool down and then adjust the distributor timing which will give you a smooth start-up & idling. Check your owner’s manual to see how to set your distributor timing.

Now take your vehicle out for a drive at different speeds and loads for 30 miles. At this point avoid driving the car at full throttle and keep the RPMs low.
While driving push the vehicle up to 2000RPM and shift your gears down to 20MPH approximately six times. Push your RPMs to 5000 and then shift your speed to 20MPH about five times. After breaking-in the engine shouldn’t exceed 5000RPMs for the next 600 miles.
