To perform an engine break-in simply use non-synthetic oil for the first oil change. Before changing the oil, check the fuel level and prime the oil system with a priming tool designed for engines. This break-in procedure is meant for flat tappet hydraulic cams only.
Now run the engine between 2000 and 2500RMP with no load on the engine for the first 32 -minutes. Running the engine with no load at this time is crucial to break-in the camshaft.
Drive the vehicle with altering speeds and loads on the Chevy engine for at least 30 miles & don’t use a lot of throttle or high RPM during this step.

Drive the next 600 miles normally without high RPMs. Keep the RPMs below 5000 when you drive. After the first 600 to 1000 miles change the filter and oil to a non-synthetic product & keep checking the engine fuel levels during this time.
You can use synthetic oil in the engine after you’ve changed the fuel for the second time.
