One way or another, these companies are always suing each other for any possible number of reasons. As far as the 90s Castrol Synthetic Motor Oil campaign was concerned, there were a few gaping loopholes which caused the company to rebrand its product. Anyhow, the interesting thing is that Castrol and Pennzoil met again on pretty ugly terms.
Once again the lawsuit was set in motion by Pennzoil on the grounds that the defendant’s synthetic motor oil was below the SAE J300 grade and the Stay in Grade test in general. Plus, there are other lawsuits that engine oil companies have been filing against each other. It is a pretty big battlefield out there.
Anyhow, it was concluded that Castrol synthetic motor oil was superior, and had more viscosity as compared to Pennzoil products. More so, the district court found out that “the ASTM 3945 Test was not a true measure of viscosity breakdown.” Pennzoil was trying to gain leverage by throwing a curveball, but the ruling was motioned in Castrol’s favor.

During our testing process, we noticed that every vehicle engine notched down to a smooth running state. Once we poured Castrol Synthetic Motor Oil into different car engines, the RPM sounds got much smoother. In addition, pushing the throttle felt like as if the engine wasn’t “struggling” anymore. If you are running a diesel vehicle, you should know that Castrol Edge Extended Performance 5w-30 is not certified to run a TDI vehicle. Some of the mechanics we consulted with said that the aforementioned brand was not certified for Diesel VW ALH standards.
